The reliable Sherman tank equips the armoured regiments of most British armoured brigades and divisions. The armoured divisions place their faith in the new Sherman with its Chrysler engine.

Each Sherman Troop has one of the excellent Sherman Firefly armed with a long-barrelled 17 pdr anti-tank gun, ideal for taking out the big German tanks. By 1945 it was common to find that half the tanks in the troop had been up-gunned with the 17 pdr to penetrate the better-armoured German tanks. The remainder kept the general-purpose 75mm.
