The Il-2 Shturmovik (‘Assault Trooper’ in Russian), is a ground attack aircraft. Slow and rugged, it is an easy target for enemy fire, but that does not matter as its thick armour shrugs off the hits. Its wide variety of weaponry makes the Shturmovik deadly to any type of target.

    In 1943 the Il-2 Shturmovik design is further improved by replacing the two 23mm cannons with a pair of long-barrelled 37mm cannons. This variant is known as the Il-2-37.
